During my winter vacation I was forced to read two big fat books. When I first saw these books I wanted to cry because they were so huge. The books that I had to read during my vacation were “Dune” and “Dune Messiah” by Frank Herbert. I began to read these books and I was instantly intrigued by the authors imagination to create unique characters, detailed description and strong images.
When I began to read “Dune” I was amazed at how good he was able to describe Paul’s pain in just the first chapter. He instantly grabbed my attention. Even though I didn’t really understand why they were doing that to him until later on in the reading, I was able to understand what pain Paul was going through. Frank Herbert is great at describing exactly what the characters are going through.
Frank Herbert is also incredible and making very unique characters. His characters are very unique not just by the way they act, but also for there appearance, personality and abilities. He has so much creativity that all his characters are completely different and they all have a different purpose in the story.
He is also able to create vivid images to your mind just by reading it. He is able to describe a setting and create a different world you have never imagined. He is able to use descriptions that relate to our earth and make it part of a different world. But not only is he able to do that, but he is also able to create new aspect to differentiate this world to our own.
Frank Herbert is able to capture the readers attention in just the first chapter. That is something very important to get the reader to read the whole book. Keeping the reader entertained throughout the whole book makes them want to continue to read continuation books.
